My name is John Arnold author of the tabletop R.P.G. Game APOCalypse 2500. A wile back I was most rudely awakened to many of the realities of the world of the carrier writer. One of the most surprising and frustrating aspects is the massive amount of delay time between traditional manuscript submission and rejection, or even acceptance. It can often take nearly a year to receive an answer back from a potential publisher, if you receive one at all. Both my wife and myself have been attempting the traditional style of "submit and wait," for a long wile now. It is a slow frustrating and tedious process of bust your brain for months writing what you believe is a master peace only to have to wait 6 to 18 months just to get a rejection. This can be especially discouraging if you have submitted to a publisher who requires they be the only one currently considering your work. This can effectively take your work off the market for more than a year. I and my wife have been and are still currently dealing with this situation at this vary moment for some of our manuscripts. In an effort to speed the process I have begun to use the "POD," Print On Demand market that the internet has made possible for anybody who produces written, visual, or audio content. (To read more about POD's click hrer) As wonderfully quick and painless as the process of using POD's is they have one major draw back, promotion. Yes as a POD author you actually are the publisher and promoter of your own work. The POD company only provides the printing and distribution service, you must market your work to the world. Now since most of us small time writers don't have hundreds or even thousands to spend each month on buying advertising on the internet what do we do? We Band Together to create a larger web presence with large amounts of unique content. Yes folks I do know something about the world wide web and especially how the folks at the larger search engines rank pages. Search engines in general like pages that have lots of text content and who have lots of links pointing at them. The internet is vary much a popularity contest. The pages that are already popular with lots of links and (presumably) traffic get the best page rankings on most search engines. Yes, I did say already popular pages get the highest ranking. This phenomenon has come to exist out of the desire of the larger search engines to provide highly relevant content and develop advertising revenue streams. (To Read more about Banding together click here) The thinking of most large search engines is something like this; if a web surfer is looking for item or information "X," I as a search engine do not want to provide to them "Y." Additionally I want them to have the best X on the internet. Hum, how do I provide or even determine the best X? I know I will give them the X everyone els is already looking at. Wow wait a minute I could also give them the X that pays the most money per listing instance. Better yet I can do both! Wow I'm going to be the best and richest search engine in the world. This is what you are competing with every time you try to post something on the internet. As the internet has most likely, 100's of thousands or even 100's of Millions of the same type of things already on it how do you get noticed? By posting your Sci-Fi and Fantasy Book, short story, e-book, games, screen plays, and artwork links to a page like Sci-Tinuum you will join with other writers and artists who are trying to be found in a literal sea of similar content. by adding links and descriptive text you add content to Sci-Tinuum which makes the first part of the search algorithm happy. The second and equally important thing to do is Post A Link To Sci-Tinuum on whatever other web presences you have. If you have a home page, web domain, blog, myspace, yahoo webring, etc you can post a link back to this site and this will ultimately point people at your own link and unique content.
